PLEASE NOTE THE ENTRY PROCESS FOR THE 2018 AWARDS WILL OPEN IN LATE 2017.

Entries are made through a self-nomination process. The awards have 18 categories open for entry, so whether you operate two, 50, 300 or 1,000 sites there is an award category which will enable you to highlight the key strengths of your business.

Please make sure you read the entry criteria carefully and provide an estate list for your company’s site with your entry. Entries and supporting information can be posted to:

Shortlisted judging fee: To support this comprehensive and time-consuming judging process, shortlisted companies will be asked to contribute £495 + VAT towards the judging costs.

This fee includes access to mystery site visit reports, tenant track research highlights and HQ and panel interview judging feedback following the announcement of winners in March 2017. It also includes two finalist places at the judging day drinks reception and networking evening in February in London and two places at the Publican Awards ceremony.

Award Categories

  • Best Accommodation Operator – This award will be presented to a pub company that has focused on offering accommodation as a key part of their business. Accommodation will play a significant part in contributing to the company’s profits and helping drive trade.
  • Best Brewing Pub Company – This award recognises companies who operate both a successful brewery and a managed or tenanted/leased pub estate or both. The company will have between 2 and 150 pub sites.
  • Best Community Pub Operator – The winning company will have a successful pub estate of community focused pubs – community focused meaning trade predominantly targets local rather than destination customers.
  • Best Late Night Operator – This award will be presented to the late night pub/bar/club operator that demonstrates sales growth; excellent business innovation, drinks retail excellence and strong entertainment and marketing ideas. The award is open to companies whose trading hours operate past midnight.
  • Best Tenanted/Leased Pub Company (Up to 200 sites) – This award will be presented to a highly successful tenanted or leased retail estate with up to 200 sites.
  • Best Tenanted/Leased Pub Company (201+ sites) – This award will be presented to a highly successful tenanted or leased retail estate with over 200 sites.
  • Best Managed Pub Company (2 to 50 sites) – This award will be presented to a highly successful managed retail estate with between 2 and 50 sites, which has shown strong innovation and business performance in the past year.
  • Best Managed Pub Company (51+ sites) – This award will be presented to a highly successful managed retail estate, which has shown strong innovation and business performance in the past year.
  • Best Pub Employer (1 – 499 Employees) – This award will be presented to the pub company that provides an excellent working environment for employees including comprehensive training, strong staff motivation and benefits and a meaningful career path/ development structure for employees.
  • Best Pub Employer (500+ Employees) – This award will be presented to the pub company that provides an excellent working environment for employees including comprehensive training, strong staff motivation and benefits and a meaningful career path/ development structure for employees.
  • Best Pub Operations Team  – This award will be presented to the pub operations team that best demonstrates its effectiveness in innovation, leadership and business success.
  • Best Value Food Offer – This award will be presented to a pub company that delivers a successful value food offer across their estate, with food a key part of the company’s total sales. This award is open to companies which average food sales of under £12.50 per head.
  • Best Food Offer – This award will be presented to a pub company that delivers a successful mainstream food offer across their estate, with food a key part of the company’s total sales. This award is open to companies which average food sales of between £12.50 to £25 per head.
  • Best Premium Food Offer – This award will be presented to a pub company that delivers a successful premium food offer across their estate, with food a key part of the company’s total sales. This award is open to companies which average food sales above £25 per head.
  • Best Pub Brand/Concept – This award will be presented to the best pub brand/concept. It may be your company’s only brand/concept or one of several brands within the company that demonstrates business success, clear strategies and strong focus on innovation and development.
  • Best New Pub/Bar – The winning pub site will have opened during the past 12 months. The site will either be a new-build pub or substantial re-development and entrants must demonstrate evidence of how effectively trade has been built at the site.
  • Best Drinks Offer – This award will be presented to a pub company that demonstrates drinks retail excellence, with drink sales a key part of the company’s total profits.
  • Responsible Retailer of the Year – This new award has been designed to recognise and reward best practice among pub companies and their outlets on a responsible retailing agenda. It will be presented to a pub company that demonstrates the highest standards of responsible drinking sales and marketing of alcoholic drinks.
